The simple answer is yes. As most people know the study of genetics is a huge focus with Scientists and although there is not just one simple gene that involves sleeping they have been able to conclude that sleeping and the habits of sleeping are genetic and can be passed down by parents. An interesting thing about this is that they have been able to find that certain people can function with only six hours of sleep due to a mutation to one of the genes. Another thing that is genetic is the likelihood f someone having one of the sleeping disorders like insomnia. Insomnia can be linked to about 30-50 percent being genetic and being passed down.
The second thing that is interesting is that some people get more deep sleep than others. This is also genetic and the mutation to the gene. What is interesting everything has a different gene for itself and the fact that some people can have perfect genetics, but since they have mutations in the sleep they have it can affect the rest of the person's body and not function as well or function even better. There are even some researchers saying that these people who sleep less due to the mutations are set to live longer even though there is not enough research to prove this yet.
This would be interesting because personally I feel like the opposite. Don't get me wrong I can definitely have days when I don't sleep as much as I would(most days) and I can function like perfectly normal. There are other days when I hit a certain time and I am struggling to keep my eyes open for another minute. It is weird that due to the thought that some mutations may occur in our genes that these can be inverse of each other.
Here all the links that I looked at for this topic. Have a wonderful nap!!!!
